The W Chair

The W Chair is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Windsor chair, designed as part of The King’s Foundation CREATE programme at Highgrove.

Handcrafted from British oak, the chair combines established woodworking techniques with a distinctive modern form. Steam-bent rear legs create an elegant, continuous silhouette, while the carefully arranged spindles form a subtle ‘W’ motif on either side.

A hand-carved seat and shaped backrest provide a supportive, cocooning feel, enhancing comfort without compromising the chair’s sculptural appearance. Beneath the seat, the intricately constructed underframe provides essential strength and rigidity, completing a piece designed to be both visually refined and enduringly functional.

As each chair is made entirely by hand, subtle variations in the timber, grain and craftsmanship ensure that no two pieces are exactly alike, giving every W Chair its own individual character.
